Durham and the Historic North East

4* Redworth Hall Hotel, Durham & the Historic North East. Crook Hall, Beamish Living Museum, Bowes Museum

Sunday 3 June

Departing the local area we travel north with a stop on route at the lovely Yorkshire town of Harrogate, before arriving at the 4* Redworth Hall Hotel, a Jacobean Manor House situated in 26 acres of grounds.

Monday 4 June

This morning we visit Crook Hall, a beautiful Grade 1 listed medieval manor house and explore its gardens, described by Alan Titchmarsh as a “tapestry of colourful blooms”. This afternoon discover the captivating medieval city of Durham, the jewel in the crown of an extraordinary county and a wonderful place to explore with ancient winding streets packed with history, culture and stunning architecture, including the magnificent Norman Castle and Cathedral.

Tuesday 5 June

Take a step back in time at the Beamish Living Museum, where the past is brought vividly to life.  Nestling in 300 acres of beautiful countryside, visit Pockerley with its stunning manor house and railway, and take a tram ride through a real Edwardian market town with its beautifully rebuilt houses and shops.  You can also visit Home Farm, wander around the Pit village and enjoy a ride on an old carousel.

Wednesday 6 June

Enjoy a trip through the stunning Durham Dales, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, passing through the pretty village of Blanchland, and across the Pennines to the town of Barnard Castle with its popular Wednesday market. After lunch we visit the renowned Bowes Museum, a spectacular French-style Chateau with ornate gardens housing internationally significant collections of fine and decorative arts.

Thursday 7 June

On our final day we will take a morning stop in the pretty town of Thirsk, ever famous as home to the real James Herriott, before continuing our journey home.
