Ireland: Dublin & Wicklow River & Rail

3* Esplanade Hotel Bray, Powerscourt House & Gardens, Dublin- Malahide train ride, Malahide Castle and Gardens, Irish National Stud & Japenese Gardens, Dublin River Cruise

Sunday 1 July

We make a leisurely departure to our overnight stop in North Wales (The Kinmel Hotel) to be ready to catch the morning ferry to Dublin.

Monday 2 July

We take the “Superfast” ferry having breakfast onboard, and taking around 3 hours to make the crossing.  Arriving at Dublin we drive to Powerscourt House & Gardens, considered one of the world’s greatest gardens, with international collections, ornate statuary, inspired designs and magnificent views of Sugarloaf Mountain.  The Esplanade Hotel is a seafront hotel just south of Dublin, restored to its Victorian elegance.

Tuesday 3 July

We begin the day with a journey on Ireland’s oldest railway, following the coast from Bray to Dublin accompanied by a local tour guide who brings the history of the region to life.  Enjoy a panorama of city coast and countryside as the DART train carries you to the seaside resort of Malahide where tea and scones will be served.  This afternoon we enjoy a visit to Malahide Castle and Gardens, Created by Lord Milo Talbot an enthusiastic plant collector who brought specimens from around the world, he also re-landscaped the grounds here to dramatic effect.

Wednesday 4 July

Today we visit the Irish National Stud and Japanese gardens, a unique attraction of outstanding natural beauty that is home to some of the most magnificent horses and sumptuous gardens to be found anywhere in the world.

Thursday 5 July

This morning we take a different view of Dublin from a highly informative boat cruise through the heart of the capital along the River Liffey.  This afternoon is free to enjoy the city at leisure.

Friday 6 July

We catch the morning ferry from Dublin to Holyhead and return home late evening.
