Each year, the first weekend of December brings Victorian festivities to Rochester in the form of a Dickensian Christmas, where you can experience street entertainment, readings, song and dance. You'll be captivated by Dickens' characters as you explore the literary journey that was the great writer's life. Each day there are parades through Rochester and the magnificent surroundings of Rochester Cathedral and Castle create a charming scene. Rochester's Dickensian Christmas has been held annually since 1988, which is fitting, as Medway held such a special place in Charles Dickens' life and work.
The Christmas Market, set in the spectacular Rochester Castle gardens is the ideal place to search for that special gift and stocking fillers by wandering around the many craft and trade stalls.
Please note we do stay until the end of the candlelit procession, departure planned for 5.30 pm (subject to traffic permits being awarded).
