After a leisurely breakfast we travel to Loch Lomond, often described as the boundary between the Scottish Highland and Lowlands. A visit to Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park wouldn’t be complete without a trip out on the loch. Peacefully cruising across the waters provides you with unique views of the surrounding mountains, close-ups of numerous islands and perhaps the chance to spot local wildlife. We travel onwards to our hotel for the night the 3* Columba Hotel, Oban.

Tuesday 8 June

Today we enjoy a scenic tour of the Isle of Lewis. The isle is steeped in history and culture, ranging back thousands of years. First we visit the Calanais Visitor Centre and the extraordinary Calanais Standing Stones erected 5,000 years ago, predating the famous Stonehenge monument. Our tour continues with a visit to the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village where we step back in time to experience the way of life in a typical crofting township of the 19th century. Finally we visit the Blackhouse at Arnol. Built in around 1880, No.42 Arnol gives a special insight into island life. This blackhouse was once the residence of a Hebridean crafting family and their animals, who moved out in 1966, and today it is preserved almost as the family left it. The new visitor centre is contained on one level, where there is a shop, exhibition area and an interactive model.
