Escape to the rolling hills and enjoy all the stunning scenery that the Peak district has to offer. We stay in the 4* Hallmark Mickleover Hotel, Derby. This 5 day holiday is packed full with visits to the World of Wedgewood, Bidulph Grange Gardens (NT), a steam train journey & admission to the "palace of the peaks" Chatsworth House. We also spend time in Matlock Bath, Buxton and we even have time to find the original tart shop in Bakewell!

We make our journey north with a stop for lunch arriving at our hotel in time to settle in before dinner.


Friday 16 July

Today we visit The World of Wedgwood, which is a unique, interactive visitor centre experience celebrating the very best of British craftsmanship. Explore the manufacturing process in the heart of the Potteries, at Barlaston, the home of Wedgwood. On the Wedgwood Factory Tour, see up close the craftsmanship, artisan skills and techniques honed over 260 years. The award winning tour offers an in depth view of all aspects of bone china and iconic Jasperware production including casting, firing, glazing, figure making, decorating and hand painting, ornamentation and gilding. This afternoon we visit Biddulph Grange Garden (NT). This Victorian garden was created by James Bateman for his collection of plants from around the world. A visit takes you on a global journey from Italy to the pyramids of Egypt, a Victorian vision of China and a re-creation of a Himalayan glen.

Saturday 17 July

After a leisurely breakfast we set out to discover the southern end of the Peak District. Sit back and enjoy a nostalgic 25-minute steam train journey between Rowsley & Matlock, gliding past villages and open countryside you can enjoy the views from the comfort of your carriage. We travel on to Matlock Bath, sat beside the River Derwent, the popular tourist spot is located in a steep and beautiful gorge. A popular tourist destination since the late 17th Century when the spa waters were first discovered, its' heyday was in Victorian times when it became known as "Little Switzerland" by the poet, Lord Byron. You can take the cable car up to Abraham Heights and take in the wonderful views or spend the afternoon exploring the number of attractions, walks, shops and eateries.

Sunday 18 July

In the heart of the Peaks lies Bakewell, famous for its tart, with a visit to the original Bakewell Pudding shop, where the tart is still made. We travel on to the nearby Palace of the Peaks, Chatsworth House has been home to the family of the Dukes of Devonshire since 1549. Explore Chatsworth’s rich interior, unique treasures and interesting history. Stroll around the 105 acres of landscaped gardens with sculptures, mazes and waterfalls. We stop of in the spa town of Buxton on our way back to the hotel.

Monday 19 July

After breakfast we make our way home with a stop on route at the National Memorial Arboretum, arriving home mid-afternoon.
