Wells-Next-The-Sea

A day at your leisure by the sea in Wells-Next-The-Sea.

Wells is one of the most attractive towns on the North Norfolk Coast. From the long sweeping beach bordered by pine woodland, along the gentle harbour with small fishing boats and children fishing for crabs, past the shops on Staithe Street with not a chain store in sight, to the tree-lined park with its fine Georgian houses, quiet pubs and restaurants - Wells is an unspoiled seaside destination, waiting to be discovered.

Its harbour is sheltered by salt marshes from the open sea and was once one of the great ports of eastern England in Tudor times. Today the harbour is still used by sailing and crabbing boats and is overlooked by an imposing granary dating from 1904.

Famous for its stunning beach, complete with scores of colourful beach huts. Miles of soft, golden sand stretch into the distance. Shorebirds nest in the dunes and feed in the shallow pools. Seals bask in the sunshine at the water’s edge.

Between the quay and the beach there’s a scenic walk with stunning views of the harbour and salt marshes. There is an Open Top Vintage Bus which runs from the football club car park near the Quay to the end of the beach road by the public toilets – perfect for carrying tired legs back to town after a long day building sandcastles, playing games and splashing about in the crystal clear water.

Behind the beach you’ll find the scented Corsican pine woods – established 150 years ago to protect the land from storms and tides, they’re a delight to explore, while offering a cool and shady respite from the sun.

Drop off point is at the Quay (the main road on the seaside front)
